Previous journeys

Every vacation from 1994 to 2004 I was travelling through Europe (by planes, buses, trains or hitch-hiking). In 2004 I participated in Erasmus/Socrates student exchange program and studied at Jönköping University in Sweden. By December 2004 I had had visited most of the countries in Europe.  Finaly there was nearly no place left to go on my native continent :)

In 2005 I decided to head for Africa - having graduated from Kaunas University of Technology I filled an application and sent it to UN volunteers' recruitment centre in Cyprus. Unfortunately, in about a month I received a negative answer. Later Rūta volunteering in Liberia told me that the youngest UN volunteer was 26 years old. I was only 25 at the time. I was ready to postpone Africa for a couple of years. But my Jönköping university fellow Thomas who was visiting me in Vilnius said: "Why postpone?" So I did not :) I decided that I will travel now and voluntary work can also be done in Lithuania. Unexpectedly (with a help from my friends again) I found a web-page of Augustas Kligys about his hitch-hiking expedition from Ethiopia to South Africa. I met him and his friend Katja, got lots of useful advice and material. In one month I was ready for the journey.

On 22nd of August, 2005 I left Vilnius in direction of South.
